Birthday Surprise at Fresco in Montclair, NJ

Yesterday was my birthday. My husband Mike, son Max and I went to a new-to-us restaurant called Fresco in Montclair, NJ to celebrate. It was our first visit to Fresco, but it certainly won’t be our last. The food was fabulous: fresh, flavorful and beautifully presented.

The restaurant is nicely done with cozy exposed brick, long red drapes, dark wood, candles. The waitstaff is attentive and friendly.

If you know me, then you know I love to have fun. And I ¬†like to make a fuss over special events. That’s why I loved that our waiter Vincent, once he learned we were celebrating my birthday, surprised me with this:

Yes! This kind of celebration rocks my world.

It was so much fun to be surprised! And I want some of those cool sparklers for my very own.

To you, my family and friends, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your birthday greetings in traditional cards, on-line cards, Facebook comments and by phone. Peggy, one of my besties, tucked this old photo into my birthday card.

Look at my hair!! I'm on the left. Peggy is on the right.

The photo was taken the day we graduated from The College of New Jersey. When I saw us together in the photo it was like I had grabbed the caboose of a memory train: throughout the day, college memories tumbled around in my head. And that was a gift in itself.

How do you prefer to celebrate YOUR birthday? Big splash? Quiet dinner? Something else?

What a great photo Darlene! You looked great then and you look great now.
My idea of a great birthday is having a great birthday cake. Maybe a wonderful golden cake with a moist velvety crumb, topped with plenty of buttercream frosting and novelty candles shaped like pixies, kittens and flowers. And maybe little marzipan fruits, too.

    • Mmmm, I love cake, Fran, and the one you’re describing sounds really yummy. And I can definitely see your cake with pixies, kittens and flowers on it. And perhaps a Madame Alexander doll replica?!

Happy Birthday! It sounds like you had a wonderful time. And you were beautiful back then, and even more beautiful now. 100 more birthdays to you!

Happy Birthday Darlene! Sounds like you had a good day!

I think maybe we’ll try to reschedule lunch…Kim cant’ do the first week in November, then I’m away, then we’re into the holidays. Maybe we can work on something for January?

    • Joyce,
      Thanks for the birthday wishes!

I’m glad you heard from Kim, although its too bad we can’t get together sooner. Enjoy Thanksgiving and the upcoming Christmas Holidays!
