A Jersey Shore Vacation: Sandcastles and Family

Manasquan NJI realize that our week’s vacation at the Jersey Shore is over, but the memories keep popping up in my head. And I realize that I didn’t do justice to two events: the sand castle competition in Belmar, N.J. and Leggett’s, the go-to Manasquan bar & grill of our family.

My daughter Tory and her boyfriend Hec drove us to Belmar and the sand castle competition on the beach. The weather was perfect: blisteringly hot and humid with a breeze off the ocean.

Can you say "crowded?" Belmar's beach was packed the day of the sandcastle competition.

The sand castles were scattered over a many-block area of the beach, and each was numbered and judged. This was by far my favorite: Kracken! It was also the overall 2013 winner!

The details on this sand sculpture are incredible.

If you know my husband Mike, you know that he loves to eat bar & grill food. And his favorite Manasquan, N.J. bar & grill? Leggett’s. Hands down. It’s quintessential Jersey fried seafood at its finest. And the pizzas are really good too. And did I mention happy hour? $2.50 Miller Lites? You could find any number of our family members at Leggett’s for lunch or happy hour almost every day we were in Manasquan. And on that last Friday night?

We know how to have fun.

Well, let’s just say that we love to laugh.
