OPI Gel Manicure: When You’ve Tired of It

Today I went to my fav local nail salon and had my OPI gel French polish removed. The manicure, seemingly done with steel-based nail polish, lasted for 3 weeks. My nails did not chip; they did not peel; heck, they looked perfect at the tips, but my nails had grown enough that the ‘edges’ around my cuticles were starting to bother me. That, and I was tired of looking at a French manicure!

Here’s what happens when you get tired of an OPI gel manicure:

The manicurist quickly swipes a buffer across each nail to rough up the surface of the top layer of polish.

The manicurist saturates cotton with nail polish remover and places it on top of each nail.

Each fingertip is wrapped in regular old Reynolds wrap.

A plastic glove is slipped over each hand. Then you sit for 3-5 minutes to let the polish "bubble up."

After a few minutes (really, less than 5 in my case), the gloves, foils and cotton are removed and the manicurist buffs off the bubbled up polish.

The polish comes off very fast and the buffing is done gently by hand (not with one of those electric machines). My nails were not ‘marked’ or scraped in the process.

I opted to have another OPI gel manicure!

This is the color I chose for the next few weeks!

P.S. This morning I weighed in agin at Weight Watchers. I lost another 1.2 pounds, bringing my total weight lost over the last four weeks to 10+ pounds! It was a thrill to see a new, lower weight recorded. If you’ve been following along you probably realize that I am now past the “weight falling off” stage and entering the “every last calorie and run counts” stage of weight removal. I’m forging ahead. Please wish me luck! I’m not known for my patience!! And I have a long way to go.

Disclaimer: OPI does not know me nor was I compensated in any way for writing about my OPI gel manicure.

Thanks for the update on how that stuff comes off. That’s quite the process but glad to hear your nails weren’t scuffed.
